Around 90 minutes, entirely your own
The programme runs from preparation to the final photos in approximately 90 minutes. Suggested starts are 10:00 and 13:30 for ring sessions, with other arrangements considered on request. The order and intensity depend on the group and venue.

01 · Meet your instructors and the dohyo
Begin with an introduction, a chance to ask questions and an explanation of the ring. Learn the basic rules, try a mawashi over suitable clothing and prepare for the session.

02 · Learn the movements
Practise shiko (leg stamps), koshiwari (sumo squats), and suriashi (sliding footwork). Your instructor demonstrates and guides the group. Teppo at a training pillar and controlled contact drills may be included where appropriate.

03 · Understand the ritual, try a bout
Learn the sequence from the opening bow and chirichozu gesture to the start and finish of a bout. Your instructor explains prohibited moves before any supervised participation. The level of contact is tailored to your ability and comfort, and taking part in a bout is optional.
04 · Photos, questions and a memory to take home
Make time for commemorative photos and questions. A shower may be available depending on the confirmed venue; tell us if changing or washing facilities are important to your onward plans.

A welcome for different people and different goals
Beginners, women, families, older guests and experienced athletes are welcome. Share mobility, clothing, privacy and participation requirements in advance. Modest clothing can be discussed; a female instructor may be requested, subject to advance arrangement and availability.
Your instructors
Standard staffing is one or two sumo instructors and an interpreter who also introduces the programme. Larger groups may need additional instructors. Our team includes former professional wrestlers and accomplished amateur competitors. A specific instructor or a former sekitori can be requested and confirmed separately.
