Understand the experience itself

Begin with the programme: what will be explained, demonstrated and offered for participation? Ask whether the session uses a real ring or a mat setting, and how the group will move between activities. The programme lasts around 90 minutes; ask what is included in that time. A clear answer should help you picture the experience without assuming that every participant will do every activity or have the same amount of individual instruction.

Ask about instructors and language support

The programme works with former professional and accomplished amateur instructors. A usual arrangement involves one or two instructors plus an English interpreter, although staffing varies. Ask who is expected to lead your booking and what language support is included. If a particular rank, background or individual is important, request it in advance. Former sekitori can be requested in advance and are confirmed separately.

Resolve practical details early

Before finalising plans, request the confirmed venue, meeting point, arrival time, clothing instructions, changing arrangements and departure expectations. Ask about the applicable cancellation and payment terms rather than borrowing conditions from another experience. Include party size, children’s ages, observer requests and any access requirements in the first enquiry. Private bookings are recommended at least two weeks ahead; earlier discussion gives you more time to clarify requests. Keep the final written confirmation somewhere everyone responsible for the itinerary can find it.
