Introduce your club and coaching goals

Introduce the club or programme you work with, the athletes’ general experience and the questions that bring you to Japan. Distinguish a technical discussion from an introductory cultural session. You might be interested in how fundamentals are explained, how an instructor sequences a demonstration or which observations they prioritise. A precise brief helps the organiser assess whether the proposed session and available instructor can address those interests within the time available.

Ask for the instructor experience you need

The programme works with former professional and accomplished amateur instructors. A particular competitive background, named individual or former sekitori must be requested in advance; it is not automatic. State whether you want observation, participation, discussion or a combination, and identify your language requirements. English interpretation may be part of the staffing arrangement, but technical vocabulary should be discussed beforehand. Do not presume that a private visitor booking includes access to a professional stable or continuing coaching support.

Choose the questions that matter most

Allow approximately ninety minutes for the programme and propose a small number of questions in order of importance. Ask what can reasonably be covered and whether any adaptation requires separate arrangements. Private bookings are recommended at least two weeks ahead, with specific expertise requests best raised early. Agree note-taking and recording permissions before arrival. A focused visit gives you observations to discuss with your club and clear questions for further study.
